Kick 'em when they're UP, kick 'em when they're down...

We love dirty laundry....

Yeah right.

My older boys, being 16 and 13, in my opinion, are old enough to take their folded, clean laundry and put it away NEATLY in their drawers/closets.  Clearly, I am wrong.

Today, the camel's back got broken by that final straw.  I spent the morning cleaning the house and I am still doing laundry with no end in sight.  When I went into Middleman's room to find the missing laundry baskets, I was shocked and dismayed.  I saw TWO laundry baskets full of clean, previously folded clothes.  However, that clean, previously folded clothes was now heaped into two big piles of crumpled clothes.  I lost it.  He's lucky he wasn't home at the time.

Once I composed myself, I had what I consider to be a BRILLIANT idea.  Today would be the last day that I did laundry for him.  When I went into Boy Oneder's room, I saw dirty laundry ALL over the floor and  some previously washed and ironed pants in a crumpled pile in the corner.  He was then added to the naughty list.

When they got home, I told them that today was a very special day.  They were confused.  "What's so special about it?" Middleman asked.

With a super big smile on my face and the voice of an angel, I replied, "Today boys, is the last day I will be doing laundry for you.  Starting tomorrow, you will both be 100% responsible for washing, folding, ironing and putting your own laundry away!"  Boy Oneder's face looked like he just lost his best friend.  Middleman was dumbfounded.  I explained what I had found in their rooms and told them that they had been asked, warned, pleaded with and cried to about how hard it is for me to keep up with a full time job, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. and that I had reached my limit.  I was past the point of no return.  I was done.

They are to come up with one day a week where each of them will have full access to the washing machine and dryer.  If they miss that day, they will be wearing dirty clothes for a week.  They are free to switch days with each other if necessary, but if they miss a week, they cannot add to Hubster, Threepeat and my laundry on the weekends.  If they leave clothes in the washer or the dryer, said clothes will be placed in the laundry tub and will have to be re-washed and/or dried.  If this is to occur, they will also have to pay us a $10.00 penalty for the wasted hydro and water that will be used by having to wash/dry the same clothes twice.

Needless to say, they are not pleased.

It will KILL me if they choose to wear dirty clothes, but I will not back down on this. They have VERY little to do here (clean their rooms and their bathroom once a week) and they don't even do that.  Now, they will have to man up and get their acts into order or they will be two very stinky boys.

They may be really mad at me today, but their future wives will thank me profusely.  :) Pin It

Top Talent

I have been working for the same company for almost 16 years.  This company is amazing.  There have been many ups and downs, but at the end of the day, this company cares about me and I care about it.

I am an Implementation Specialist.  I convert/implement clients onto a payroll/HR software program.

A little background...

I started in 1997 as a customer service rep.

I moved up to a higher position with a different product in 1999.

After Middleman was born, I moved to the training department.

Then I moved to inside sales...a brand new department within the company.

I was promoted to Team Leader of the inside sales team.

I then moved up to Implementation Specialist in 2006, which allowed me to work virtually (I work from home 95% of the time).

In February, I applied for a position on the Top Talent Team.  This is a new initiative that basically takes the "cream of the crop" and puts them with mentors, as well as has them working on projects that are to be presented to the executive team, with a goal to rolling the plans out to the entire company.

There are approximately 1,200 employees at this company.

There were 75 applicants for the Top Talent Team.

Our applications were reviewed and whittled down to 32 candidates.

Those 32 candidates were required to present to the Top Talent Committee.  We did a five minute presentation on a project that we felt should be taken on by the chosen Top Talent Committee.

The 32 were then cut to 16.  I am one of the 16.

After all the years I have invested in this company, I finally feel that my efforts are being noticed.  My voice is being heard.  I am being recognized for my hard work and dedication.  And hell yeah...I am going to sing my own praises!  This was such a huge accomplishment and I am so, SO proud of myself.

Yesterday, I joined the other 15 top performers for a two day conference.  The talent, tenure and wisdom in the room was unbelievable.  I mingled with all of the executives of my company and got my name out there!  I am no longer just a number...I am ME!  I am amazing.  I rock.

I am so excited about this opportunity.  This opportunity gives me FIRSTHAND EXPOSURE to our top executives!  I no longer have to rely on anyone else passing on the message about my work ethic...I can prove it firsthand to the people that matter.  I am stoked beyond belief.

This is incredible.

It will be A LOT of work over the next six weeks because this appointment is above and beyond my regular job, but I am beside myself with excitement about it.

I am going places people!  I am mooooooovin' on up!!!

Update on us...

  • Dudmuffin is fitting in perfectly with the fam.  He is as smart as a whip and so loving and affectionate.  He is tinier that his photos show and he has moments where he pounces around like a kitten.  Rosie is tolerating him.  She growls at him to keep him at a distance, but little Dudley doesn't give up.  He is determined to be her friend...I'm hoping that day will come soon because he is so desperate to play with her.  He was very slow to start eating, which worried me a lot over the weekend.  He honestly survived from Thursday to Sunday on about 5-10 pieces of puppy kibble per day.  Being so little and so feisty, he needs the food for energy and I was really starting to worry about hypoglycemia, which is very common in little chihuahuas.  Luckily, I was able to get him to eat a nice big (2 tsps) meal on Sunday by mixing some boiled chicken into his softened kibble.  Now that he's eating a little, I feel much better.  He is sleeping in his crate at night time and last night was the first night that I slept upstairs in my bed.  His crate was in the family room.  I let him out at 11:00 and got up at 6:15 and he had had no accidents...GOOD BOY!  Threepeat loves him to death (almost literally) and so his crate is a peaceful place where Threepeat is not allowed to bother him.  Boy Oneder and Middleman as well as Hubster are all smitten with our little guy.  He is a great addition to our family of boys!
  • School is going well for all three boys.  Middleman's soccer season is coming to an end and Boy Oneder's hockey season is just beginnning.  Threepeat started gymnastics last week and loved it. We missed last night because both Hubster and I had to work late, but he didn't remember that it was Monday, so he has no clue that he missed a class. ;)
  • Threepeat lost his second tooth last night...the bottom right has now joined the bottom left that he lost a couple of months ago and he has a big gap in the bottom of his mouth.  He is really quite proud of his "big boy" status.
  • Boy Oneder is still dating his lovely girlfriend, "A".  She is beautiful, inside and out and I am very pleased with his choice.  I know that he's only 16 and chances are, she will be one of many, but I am going to enjoy her while she's here.  She is just amazing.
  • I have been chosen to be part of the "Top Talent Team" at work.  I am one of 16 people in the entire company chosen to be on this team.  We are meeting this Thursday and Friday for a conference where we will be working on projects with executive mentors.  I am extremely excited about this and can't wait to see what's in store for us.  This is such an awesome opportunity to work with some really great people and learn a lot from some high level executives!
I think that captures everything that's going on around here.  Now that summer is coming to an end, hopefully, our lives will slow down just a bit so I can be better about blogging more frequently! Pin It

Cuddly Dudley has arrived!

I have been keeping a secret for over a week now.  We were originally scheduled to go all the way out to Frankford, Ontario (2.5 hour drive each way) to pick up Dudley from the breeder tomorrow.  The breeder is a co-worker of mine and last week, she told me she was going to Ajax, Ontario (a one hour drive) for a team meeting on Thursday (yesterday).  It worked out awesomely as I saved myself an extra 3 hours of driving by meeting her at the team meeting.

I decided last week when she told me, not to tell the boys.  I would suprise them when they came home from school and saw little Dudley in the house.

It nearly killed me, but I kept the secret and I am SO glad I did.  The look on their faces when they walked in the door was priceless!  I videotaped all three of them, but, believe it or not, NONE of the videos worked.  :(  I did snap a shot of them a few minutes after they saw him though.

I have been keeping an album on Facebook of photos that the breeder has sent me and have added to it all along.  There are also a few from yesterday and today:

Dudley is so much tinier that I even imagined.  He is a Shi-Chi (Shih Tzu Momma and Chihuahua Daddy).  His mommy is 10 lbs and his daddt is 4 lbs so we expect Dudley to be somewhere in between.  He is the runt and currently weighs 1.1 kg.  I took him to the vet for a check up yesterday and he is perfect in every way.  He is so lovng and is definitely a lapdog!  The boys, Hubster included, LOVE him and I am just in heaven with this little guy.  Rosie, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with him.  She isn't outright mean and nasty, but she does growl at him as she walks past him, as if to say, "Watch it Mister!  I'm the boss around these parts!"  I'm sure she will warm up over time.  In the meantime, Duds just stays out of her way.  :)
Last night, being the first night, I slept on the couch with Dudley in his little crate on the floor beside me.  He cried for a few minutes when we turned off the light, but settled fairly quickly.  He whimpered several times throughout the night at at 4:00 am, I took him out for a pee.  He did his business and went right back to sleep.  Only one accident in the house so far...always the humans' fault though, as he was left unattended for a couple of minutes and pooped on the dining room floor.  His poops are SO small that really, it was nothing,  Every other time, he has peed outside.  He's a very smart little boy!
We are very excited and in love and can't wait to see Dudley grow not only into his body, but into his personality!!

Do you see my title up there? Busy...yep that would be Busy with a capital "B" is crazy around here lately!

  • the boys are back into their school routines.  They all love their teachers so that makes the idea of school much nicer!
  • Dudley joins us in just a few short days.  We are all very excited to have our little man here in his forever home!
  • Middleman's soccer team played really well in the St. Catharines tournament this past weekend, but we had some trouble with the parents...again...I have been so upset about this and am so angry and disappointed in the immature and disrespectful behaviour of a few of the parents.  They are complaining about their son not having enough time on the field.  In my opinion, this is something that should be discussed privately with the coach, not by screaming and cursing on the field, in front of all the kids, all the parents and all the other teams in the tournament.  These parents embarrassed the coach and the entire soccer club with their horrible actions.  This is a REP soccer team.  If they are not happy with the amount of time their son plays, they should put him on a houseleague team.  The coach needs to play his strongest players in important games and they need to come to terms with the fact that their kid is NOT a strong player.  My goodness, I have to let this go, but my heart really does go out to our coach.  He is a very, very good man who is fair and kind to all the kids.  He doesn't deserve the treatment he got this weekend.  He puts his heart and soul into this VOLUNTEER position.  Parents should be kissing his hand for all he does, not purposely embarrassing him.  And to add insult to injury, there is one mother on the team who plays both sides of the coin.  To several parents, she agrees that the offending parents were wrong, and yet to the offending parents, she sympathizes and says the coach is wrong.  You know what?  Pick a side and stick to it or shut your mouth...all you are doing is making things worse!  GRRR!  /rant off
  • Boy Oneder had a motorcycle accident yesterday in the schoolyard.  He was riding a pocket bike that the neighbour gave him with shorts and a t-shirt on.  He knows MUCH better because he is a dirtbike rider.  Safety comes first.  By the grace of God, he was smart enough to be wearing a helmet, so his face and head are still intact, but the rest of his body is a disaster.  He has 12 road rashes on his arms, legs, hip, shoulders, back and feet.  He is a complete mess and he is in alot of pain.  I hope he has learned his lesson, but I wish I could take away the pain.  Bless his heart.
  • Middleman's three week old Blackberry got dropped down the sewer last night.  He was outside playing soccer with the neighbs.  He had no pockets, so he put his Blackberry down on the grass...near the of the neighbour girls picked it up and voila...drops it directly into the sewer.  We all stood and watched as he received texts before the lights burned out in the depth of the sewer.  I felt sick.  This was a replacement for the one he tried to clean with water when it got dirty from being dropped in the sand a few weeks ago.  So now, he will pay for a replacement with his own money.  He needs to learn the value of a buck and I refuse to keep replacing his stuff.  We'll see if that makes a differenence in how he treats his new phone.
Man, this ended up being a pretty negative post....but Dudley comes soon!!!!!!!  Happy Tuesday!

Back to reality...

My vacation, and the kids' summer vacation, officially end now. I am lying here in bed, dreading the hamster wheel I need to climb back into at 7:00 tomorrow morning.

The laundry is all done, ironing complete, house clean and our skin is sunkissed from a glorious weekend spent outdoors. Tomorrow morning, the boys will have to wake WAY too early to get ready for school. No more laying in bed until 10:00 or later for them...the lazy days of summer are over.

No more hanging out with their friends or trips to Wonderland. No more staying out late, nor movies that end after midnight. Tomorrow, reality hits...hard. :(

I will miss their company during the day. I will miss having them around when I need help or just a hug. I will miss them. :(

Threepeat doesn't start SK until Wednesday, but he will continue his routine at daycare tomorrow.

Sigh...I so love summer. Especially summers like we just had...perfect weather. I'm depressed. Looking forward to our cruise in March. :) Pin It

Just what the doctor ordered....

I am on the last two days of a twelve day "staycation" and man oh man have I needed this.

I have been **almost* unplugged for most of this time and it has done me a world of good.  Oh sure, I've checked in to Facebook a few times and have checked my email, but for the most part, I have been away from the computer.

Last Thursday, we headed up to the Delawana Inn with my Mum, my nieces and Hubster and the boys.  This place is so freaking awesome.  I could go on for days about how many things there are to see and do there, but I will save you the time.  Just head over to and you'll see and read all that we had at our fingertips.  The absolute best part was being able to spend some really good quality time with Courtney, Rebekah and Danielle.  I don't get to see them often enough, but the four days that we spent together were absolutely precious.  They are such lovely, lovely girls and my sister would be so stinking proud of the young ladies they are becoming.  Don't even get me started on their beauty...stunners is an understatement!

On Sunday, we headed home and I plowed through many, MANY loads of laundry.  Monday was uniform day and Boy Oneder and I spent an hour at the school uniform store waiting our turn to get his school clothes.  $269.00 later and we had 3 golf shirts, 2 pairs of pants and a sweater.

Tuesday was underwear and socks day.  I headed over to Walmart with Middleman and we got them all new socks and undies.  I picked up a new bed for Rosie (and one for Dudley too) and new bowls for both of them as well.  I also got a few groceries and a few outfits for Threepeat.  The grand total was $344.00.  (gulp!)  Middleman couldn't fit into the boys' size 16 jeans but was swimming in the mens' size 30, so we didn't get any back to school clothes for him.

Wednesday was clean the house day.  I got the first floor shining and then lost all my steam.  I laid down and read quite a few pages of "Fifty Shades Freed".  I was still forcing my way through it though.

Thursday was "Get Middleman Jeans Day" so we headed over to Vaughan Mills to get some.  Four stores later, we ended up at American Eagle and he got three pairs of 29/32 jeans...all to the tune of $180.00.  (gulp!)

Boy Oneder came with us and bought himself a new paintball gun in preparation for the next day which was "Drive to Barrie for Paintballing Day".  Boy Oneder brought his beautiful girlfriend of four months and Middleman came along.  I considered keeping Threepeat out of camp for the day, but because Flagraiders (near Bingemans) was closed, there would have been nothing for him to do, so I left him in camp.  He went on a trip to Cedar Ridge Park anyway and had a blast with his friends.

The older boys had an AWESOME time at Barrie Paintball and can't wait to go again.  Boy Oneder's girlfriend held her own and had alot of fun too.

Yesterday, we ate dinner at Mum's and I fell asleep on her couch at 8:00.  I was sooo freaking tired.  We got home at 9:30 and I went straight to bed.  What a difference THAT made.  I feel like a million bucks today!

Tonight, we are having homemade spaghetti bolognese and then our neighbs, who have been away in the States for a few days, are heading over for some Mojitios, Dawn style.  Oh yeah will be a great night!

Tomorrow is clean the upstairs day and prepare for our big back to school day on Tuesday.

I really need to take extended staycations more often.  I am a new woman because of this!

Dudley arrives in 13 days and we simply can't WAIT to have him all to ourselves!  He is still less than a pound in weight and he is seven weeks old tomorrow.  What a little dolly!!!! Pin It
