So proud....

On May 18th, Boy Oneder will be confirmed as a Catholic. He is taking this sacrament very seriously. Thanks to both his school and his Nanna, who he has chosen as his sponsor, he truly understands the meaning of the sacrament of Confirmation.

Of course, there will be a party to celebrate this blessed event, and on May 30th, we will have a nice lunch at the banquet hall where Hubster and I had our wedding reception. Actually, it's the restaurant attached to the hall, but you get the idea. One Italian tradition for big events like weddings, baptisms, First Communions and Confirmations is to give the guests "bombonieres". These are like a little thank you for coming to celebrate with us and are usually something like a candy bowl, a picture frame or a small vase. I used to love getting these little gifts, but after receiving my third gravy boat, it got a little old.

So, for Boy Oneder's Confirmation, I asked him if he would like to give a donation to a charity instead of a physical gift. He loved the idea. I left him with the task of choosing the charity he wanted to donate to and last night, he asked if he could choose two. I told that absolutely he could choose two. He chose The Leukemina Foundation in memory of my Dad and The Liver Foundation in memory of Hubster's Dad. I was so touched that he wanted to include them both in his special day.

Here is the Thank You card I made. It is bad quality here because I just did a print screen and used "Paint" to create a file for you to see, but it will be printed on blank beige cards:

Five Question Friday...errr...Sunday...

Mama M's weekly 5 Question Friday....(so what that it's Sunday...better late than never...)

1. What was the first car you owned?

It was in 1988. The car was a 1986 Ford Escort. Stick shift, chocolate metallic brown. Yeah...a real guy magnet.

2. What song are you embarrassed to know the lyrics to?

Oh my gosh, the listis endless. The first one that comes to my mind is, "I can't wait to see you again" by Miley Cyrus.

3. Have you ever had stitches?

Yes...once in my top lip when I was 5...I ran from one window in our apartment to the other to see a stray dog and put my tooth through my lip when I hit the marble window ledge. I also had stitiches for my wisdom tooth surgery and my bunion surgery and all three of my boys' births.

4. What was your first job?

Bargain Harold's. I got fired on my 3-month anniversary, along with three other people because we were due for a raise...oh...the manager told us we folded the clothes too slowly. (rolls eyes)

5. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?

Grover...hands down. Pin It

What a week...and it's not even over yet!

My stress level this week has been through the roof. Work has been a disaster, I am not sleeping again and I am fighting off a headache that makes my head feel like it will explode. Advil and Tylenol are the only reason I haven't fallen over from the pain...they just keep the pain managable though. Ugh.

Threepeat has ZERO interest in potty training and I am really trying to go with the flow (excuse the pun) and let him use the toilet when he is ready, but it is SO frustrating to have him tell me he has to poop, I offer the potty or the toilet and he out and out REFUSES to go anywhere but in a diaper. This is so new to me because Boy Oneder and Middleman were already using the toilet by this age and literally did so overnight. UGH.

I just want this week to be over already.

UGH. Pin It

I'm officially "back in the saddle"

And I am one RUSTY STIRRUP! Poor Myles must have thought he had a mental patient on his back...OK Kate...let that one go.

Anyway, it took me a while to get myself on the right diagonal, but thanks to Shelley's great teaching, it wasn't long before I felt right at home up there on Myles' back! We did a half an hour lesson and I got to love on Myles a but while I groomed and untacked him after the ride. It was a wonderful hour of "me time".

I will see him again on Sunday morning, this time, sans Shelley (tremble...I'm a bit nervous being up there by myself) and I will spoil him with carrots and apples while I groom him to death. ;o)

Gosh I love horseback riding...why did I wait this long to ride again?! Pin It

Getting to Know You

Courtesy of Mannland:

1. Mens chests..hairy or hairless?

Hairless. Although Hubster has a hairy chest...not too hairy, but hairy all the same, I prefer smooth chests.

2. How often do you run red lights?

Never. I's a good girl.

3. If you could raid any celebrity's closet..whose would you raid?

Kate Winslet. I think she and I are about the same size and I like her style.

4. Would you rather have more followers/friends on Facebook, Twitter, or your Blog?

None of the above. I recently decided to blog for me and hope that I touch a few people along the way. Blogging in order to get followers was not only exhausting, but completely unsatisfying. I use Twitter for the purpose that I think it was originally created...marketing for our business. Facebook is about catching up with old friends and staying in touch with those who are far away...I have never really thought about the number of friends I have...just that the ones I have are important to me.

5. What makes you feel sexy?

Having my hair straightened and dressing up to go out.

6. I get excited when...........?

I have something to look forward to...could be one of the boys' hockey games, a party/night out, horseback riding, movie night.

7. Are you the "outdoorsy" type or more "indoorsy"?

In the summer, I am outdoorsy...I HATE going inside on a beautiful evening. In the winter, I am indoorsy. I hate cold.

8. Would you rather have your dream home or a million dollars? A million dollars.

I would turn my existing home into my dream home and still have lots of money to spare for other things! ;o) Pin It

What a whirlwind of a weekend!

Threepeat's birthday party was AMAZING. The folks at Little Gym really took good care of us, and I didn't have to lift a hand...now THAT's my kind of birthday party! Thank you to Kelly, Jessica and Roger for making Threepeat' day so special! Mom bought Threepeat his super cool Spiderman cake from Costco and all the decor was Spiderman...it was seriously all spidered out...I'll post pics later.

After the party, we headed back home and Hubster set up the 4-in-1 bouncer for Threepeat and the neighbs. They bounced until supper time (hamburgers and hotdogs, homemade potato salad and homemade pasta salad) and then bounced some more. At 7:00, the party was over and we were all pooped. I was asleep by 9:30. Ahhhh....

So sorry that Anthony and Alysha were too sick to join us...I hope you are both back to yourselves again today...thanks for not coming and spreading your cooties! ;o)

And sorry that Michele thought the party was on Saturday (BIL! BIL! BIL!! ;o) ) so missed Sunday's party. It was lovely spending time with you and all the girlies on Saturday though.

Threepeat got lots of fabulous clothes (he's gonna be the best-dressed kid on the street this summer!!) and some really cool Spidey gear. He is a very lucky boy. Thank you everyone!

So now, my boy has gone from an infant, to a baby, to a toddler and is now considered a preschooler. Sigh, where DOES that time go??? I know we all lament that much too speedy time flying thing, but it really does amaze me that there are parts of his infancy and toddlerhood that I have completely forgotten already and that makes me sad. :o( Pin It

Littlest one...

At this very time, three years ago, I was anticipating your birth. I lay in a hospital bed in the triage room at Peel Memorial Hospital, suffering not from contractions, but from horrible, angonizing, indescribable heartburn. The contractions were managable, but the heartburn was not.

The excitement of your impending birth and the knowledge that I would hold you in my arms in mere hours, was my strength through that rough time. I laboured through the night, reminding myself that it would all be worth it when I saw you...and oh how it was worth it. As I type this post, I can vividly see the doctor's face as he told me to stop pushing because your umbilical cord was wrapped around your neck. The seconds that it took for him to remove the cord felt like hours...finally, I gave my final push and you screamed to the world that you had arrived. At long last, you were in my arms, more beautiful than I could ever imagine...absolute perfection...and you were mine.

After two other children, you would think that the novelty of holding your child for the first time would wear off a bit, but there is no wearing off for that moment. Nothing in this world compares to holding your child for the first time...knowing that all of the hard times in pregnancy have finally paid off. You were here. You were mine.

I look at you now and see a little boy, no longer a baby...growing too quickly for me to keep up. My tears flow as I recall those special breastfeeding moments, the sleepless nights, your first smiles, giggles, words, teeth, foods, steps....all of those firsts behind you and many more before you...time moves too quickly...much too quickly.

Threepeat, you are our gift. Our special boy who was simply meant to be. I can't imagine life without you...you completed me. You made me whole. You gave our family hope when there was none. You brought joy to a family full of grief and pain. You filled a void that needed to be filled. You are such a special boy in so many ways and I thank God for the honour of being your mother. As you turn three tomorrow, I pray that you receive even half as much joy as you have given to me...you are my world littlest one...Happy Birthday angel. Pin It

Today is prep day. Tomorrow is my baby boy's third birthday and we are throwing him a big party.

The day will begin with Threepeat opening his gifts from Hubster and I and his brothers...we got him "Elefun", a game he saw on a commercial and has been asking for ever since and the boys got him "Toy Story 1 and 2", which he has also been asking for since our trip to Florida in March. I know he'll be thrilled!

Next, we will be at Little Gym for his party from 12:00 until 1:30, where Miss Kelly and her helpers will lead the kids in lots of gymnastic activities. We'll then have pizza and cake.

Finally, we will head home to have a barbecue with Threepeat's Zias, Zios and cousins. Unforch, the weather is going to suck, so no bouncy castle this year. :o(

So, in preparation for the big day, I will be making homemade pasta salad and potato salad today and packing up the van with all the loot bags and decorations. I love prep days, but I really love party days!! Pin It

Five Question Friday

Yes folks, it's that time again...Five Question Friday, courtesy of Mamma M!

Here are this weeks' questions:

1. What words do you use on your blog/online that you don't use in real life?

2. Do you still write checks?

Yes...but rarely. I think the only cheques (I'm Canadian so it's not checks) I have written in the last year or so are for the boys' school...they won't take cash. I am mainly a plastic girl...Mastercard and debit baby.

3. Who was your favorite President and why?

Although I am not American, I do have a favourite president...Ronal Reagan. I love that he was an actor and then became the most powerful man in the world. I loved his sweet face...especially as he aged...he just seemed like everyone's Grandpa. I loved that he took a stand when he believed in something. He seemed to be a real man's man...tough and rugged, but I suspect that he treated Nancy like his queen. I loved everything about him and wish I could have met him.

4. Are you a yeller?

Heck yes. I have issues with this because I yell ALL the time and I hate it.

5. Have you ever dumpster dived?

Never even heard of this expression, so I googled it...eww. No, I most certainly have not. Pin It

Getting to Know You

Mannland Style.

The questions..

1. What color do you wear the most?

I don't really have one colour that I wear most. Mainly darker colours, but nothing I would say "most"

2. Would you rather have $10,000 dollars or a dream vacation? $10,000. We've had a couple of vacations already this year, hence the need for $10,000. LOL!

3. Do you have a weird, quirky or unusual habit?

I have to have the first taste out of anything that I open for the first time (ie: a bag of chips). Even if I am getting the food for someone else, if I am the first person to open the bag/box/can, I HAVE to taste it first.

4. I really need to start..........? Exercising

5. What was the first blog you ever read? Wow...I can't remember...that was a LOOONG time ago. I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast this morning!

6. Do you collect anything? Dust...unintentionally

7. How old were you when you had your first kiss? 12, with Jeff Harding. It was awful too. We banged teeth and I ran away, embarrassed.

8. Do you text/twitter while driving? No...it's illegal and unsafe. Pin It

Decisions, decisions...

I have seen a bunch of horses this weekend and I have so many choices...each one has pros and cons...

Gambler...an older paint horse who is a gem to ride...he knows what he has to do, so he's like a big couch. He's so lovely and gentle. The barn is great...not too bad a drive from home, but a little far. Maggie, his owner, and I connected immediately...she has a nearly four month old baby girl...we talked about childbirth and breastfeeding for almost an hour before she introduced me to Gambler. It's a fairly big barn though and I could see it bustling with lesson kids.

Thumper...she is a gorgeous thoroughbred/warm blood cross. The barn is twenty minutes from home. Unfortunately and fortunately, it is a very small barn (only 6 horses) so I would be alone up there most of the time. She is a jumper and has an English saddle, which is OK because I can ride English or Western, but for pleasure riding, I would prefer Western...and she's a show horse, which is a bit scary for me, as I wouldn't want to ruin whatever work her owner has put into her. Kate, her owner is a lovely young girl who is just looking for someone to love on her horse, but I just didn't feel a connection with Thumper.

Story...her real name is "Champagne Story" and she is a beautiful pain mare. She is so quiet and easy to ride. The barn is quite far from home (45 minutes) but I instantly connected with Evelyn, her owner and all the other animals at the barn. It's an older barn, very quiet and Evelyn breeds paint horses, so I would be surrounded by foals. I really am considering this barn, but the only thing is the distance.

Crescendo...a stunning horse...and HUGE. I felt like I was on top of the world while I was on his back. He is a real handful...he nearly threw me - LOL...and would be a great challenge, but again, it's a small barn and I would probably be riding alone alot. Allison, his owner is a sweet lady and we connected right away. She had her friend, Lisa there as well and she was just as lovely. The barn is in Cookstown, which is a long way from here and that is the only thing holding me back.

Leanne owns a barn in Cookstown and I went to visit her as well. What a lovely lady with a huge heart. She has about 8 horses, but none of them are really what I am looking for and the barn is so far from home...

I have another appointment tomorrow night and one on Thursday night and then I will make my decision. It's such a hard decision to make because all of the owners/horses/barns are great...

Stay tuned. Pin It

Five Question Friday

It's Mama M'sFive Question Friday Time...yeah it's Saturday...'ev!

1. Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

Kate Winslet. I heart Kate Winslet.

2. Did you ever go to summer camp?

Yes...many times. Mostly Horseriding Camp through the YMCA, but also some Arts and Crafts Camps too. I loved it. I never did a stay over camp though...that's one thing I wish I had done.

3. What sends you running and screaming in the other direction?

Kate. LMAO...I jest. Bees, wasps and hornets. I am terrified of them.

4. What is something you do that drives your spouse nuts?

Play on my computer too much.

5. What is currently your favorite song?

I'm Awesome by Spose. LMAO. Pin It

Most of you won't "get" this post....

but my heart is full and so I'm gonna blog it out...

When I was about 3 years old, my Mom and Dad put me on my first horse. "Clara" was a pot-bellied, sway-backed, paint pony who I loved very much. I still remember her all these years later. From that time, the love of horses has been in my blood and through the years, I have temporarily quenched my thirst for horsey-love by trail riding, working at barns in exchange for free rides and paying big bucks for day long horseback tours.

I have wanted to own a horse for as long as I can remember...but, life, family and money have never allowed me to fulfill that dream.

This weekend, I embarked on a mission. I have decided that I want to part board a horse, as a first step to eventual ownership. Part boarding entails paying a horse owner to ride their horse twice a week. I pay a monthly fee and the owner pays everything else, but we agree on two days a week and the horse is mine for those two days. I have visited four barns so far, and each one has its pros and cons. I have two more to visit tomorrow and one more on Tuesday evening...then I will make my decision.

I have to tell you that the moment I sat on the first horse, that VERY moment, I knew I was where I needed to be. Horseback riding is my passion...the one constant interest in my life. As addictive as a drug, being away from horseback riding can only last so long before the craving to be back in the saddle is too overwhelming to fight. Therapeutic, both mentally and physically, I need to be on a horse...

"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man" - Winston Churchill

Being in the barn today was bliss. The smells, the sounds, looking in a horse's eye and feeling a connection, being nuzzled by two yearlings that were so affectionate they could have been puppies...I swear they would have curled up on my lap if they could have...takes me to a place that nothing else can. I truly need to be with horses.

And so, my mission is almost complete. I felt a connection with one horse today, but will test that connection tomorrow when I meet two more horses. By Tuesday, I will have agreed to part board a horse, with the eventual goal of buying a horse of my own. That may be years away, but for now, I am thrilled at the idea of spoiling someone else's horse.

So, I understand that most of you won't understand this yearning...but that's OK...it's a horse thing. ;o) Pin It

16 years ago today...

I married the love of my life.

On April 9th, 1994, this was me:

Sixteen years.

That's a LONG time, especially these days when most peoples' vows silently include, "and if it doesn't work out, we'll just get divorced". I am proud of the fact that Hubster and I have held it together all these years. Sure, there have been rough patches, but I wouldn't trade him for the world. He IS my world. He's my best friend. He's my everything.

I love you more and more each day Hubster. Thank you for being my everything. Pin It

Happy Easter!!

Today is the holiest and most joyous day of the year for Christians. For today is the day that our Lord, Jesus Christ rose from the dead, saving us all from our sins. And what a glorious day it is here today. The sun is shining brightly and there are only a few puffy clouds in the gorgeous blue sky. Perfect weather to celebrate this holy day with friends and family!

The Easter Bunny did not disappoint, bringing Boy Oneder and Middleman chocolate Bart Simpsons and Threepeat a chocolate Spiderman.

We had a great time at Grandma's house yesterday. All the kids bounced for hours in the castle we brought and we all ate like pigs. Today, Nanna is cooking our lunch and my Mom and her friend are joining us. Spending time with family is what Easter is all about! Hubster's sister and her family are heading over this evening, completing what promises to be a fantastic day!

We are so very blessed

I hope that you will have as glorious a day as we are having!
