7 cavities :o(

Threepeat had his follow-up dental appointment yesterday. It didn't go very well.

He didn't like lying down, he didn't like opening his mouth, he didn't like having his teeth counted, nor having his teeth scraped. Sigh... The hygenist didn't even ATTEMPT to actually properly clean his teeth.

We were able to get a couple of x-rays and the dentist was able to do a more thorough check of his teeth and she counted what she thinks was seven cavities. :o( Boy Oneder and Middleman, to this day, have only had two cavities each, and small ones at that. The dentist said that some kids are just more prone to cavities than others, and that unfortunately, Threepeat was just one of those kids. She also told me that his teeth were very clean (TAKE THAT KATE!) and that it is not my fault....KATE!

She also told me that there was no way she would be able to do his fillings while he is awake, even with laughing gas. She told me he would have to be put to sleep. I told her that I really didn't want him to have general anesthetic unless it was absolutely the only option and she understood that. She also confirmed that we can wait about 6 months because the cavities are very small and we caught them early. Hopefully, in 6 months' time, Threepeat will be a little more cooperative and perhaps we can avoid the sleeping part.

Sigh...

Getting to Know You

I have been following Mannland 5 for a while now and decided that today, I will join in her "Getting to Know You" weekly piece.

Here are the questions and my answers:

1 - Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging in 2003 I think. I used Caring Bridge as an outlet for my emotions during my Dad's battle (and subsequent loss) with leukemia. I've used Blogger, Wordpress, a couple of almost unknown servers and then came back to blogger. I find that my blog is so therapeutic, not just for me, but for so many others who have contacted me because of something I posted. My blog is my diary...for the world to see.

2 - Who's the one blog friend that you would want to meet most in "real life"?

I am so blessed that I have met many of my online friends in real life. Kate, Karen and Wendy to name a few. There are two bloggers that I would LOVE to meet in person, and one of them is a real possibility since she lives fairly close to me...Kia is witty, funny and so cute. She lives just a stone's throw away, so I *WILL* meet her one day. Deanna and Tony live nowhere near me, so the chances of meeting them are remote, but I would love, love LOVE to meet them. They are wonderful parents with the cutest little dolly-girl you ever did see!

3 - Why are you always concerned with losing that "extra 10 pounds" when chances are your husband/boyfriend/friends tell you that you look just fine the way you are?

I'm not. LOL.

4 - What's the one thing you wish guys could understand about you?

That Moms need breaks too. That sometimes, it would be nice if you offered to do some of the chores AND watch the kids at the same time instead of leaving everything to me. Ooops...was that out loud? Let's just say we had a bit of a rough weekend.

5 - Tattoos. How many do you have and how many are visible when you wear your "everyday" clothes?

I have two tattoos. One on my shoulder, in memory of my Dad. It's the Union Jack flag with the leukemia ribbon through it and my Dad's DOB and DOD in the ribbon. I also have a large tattoo on the bottom of my back, which started small...a butterfly with some ivy and then I added to it some large forget-me-nots and RIP Joanne in memory of my sister. It's quite big, but no one can see it unless I have a bikini on...which doesn't happen often! LOL...I love both of my tattoos and would like more.

6 - What was the best year of your life and why?

High school graduation, 1987. I was footloose and fancy free...no responsibilities, lots of friends, no stress...just loved life for that year.

7 - Name three things you would do if you were a man for one day.

Lay on the couch and ignore my wife's calls for assistance, pee standing up, drink beer with my hand in my waistband...oh wait, I do that already! LOL - Kidding.

8 - What's your alcoholic drink of choice that usually raises a few eyebrows?

White wine. It's all I really drink, except for an occasional beer or fruity drink once in a while. I don't think it raises eyebrows though...so I'm a bore! ;o)

First Trip to the Dentist

Well, we took Threepeat to the dentist this morning, and he does in fact have two cavities...maybe more. The dentist took a quick look and only saw the obvious ones in the front, but didn't spend alot of time examining his mouth because it was his first time and he didn't want to make it a bad experience.

We have another appointment for March 30th for a cleaning and proper examination and then will take him back for the fillings another time. The dentist said that they were not "bad" cavities and that we had a little time before we have to act on them, so I feel much better.

He was very good and opened up wide for the dentist. He got a sticker and a balloon for his efforts.

Here he is just before the dentist came in:

23 hours, but we are here...

WOW...Florida is a long way away...

We letat 4:00 pm yesterday and arrived home at 3:00 pm today. TWENTY-THREE HOURS PEEPS! That is a lot of hours.

I drove from Davenport to Savannah, where we made our first stop for dinner at Ruby Tuesday's...it was 6:50 pm. At 8:15, we were back on the road, this time, Hubster was driving. We drove until 10:30, when Hubster stopped to fill up. He then drove, stopping once at a shady spot somewhere in North Carolina. It was a scary gas station of the highway, with lots of shady looking characters. Anyway, back on the road again and I tried to sleep but was just WAY too uncomfortble, so I rested my eyes all night. At 5:45 am, Hubster pulled over to get gas and I grabbed a LARGE coffee and drove from there (somewhere in northern Virginia) to northern Pennsylvania. We stopped at 8:30 for gas and Hubster drove another hour to a McDonald's in Buckchuck Nowhere, PA. The kids had some pancakes...err...HOTCAKES as the Yankees call them and then we headed of again, this time, Hubster at the wheel. Our last stop was for gas in New York and then a quick drive through Canada Customs and we were on the QEW, headed for home.

Sigh...

I am completely exhausted. We had a fantastic trip, full of familiness (new word). I am SO very proud of my boys...they were almost perfect for the whole ride down AND back. They are the rockin'est kids ever.

We didn't plan on arriving home until tomorrow, so it is nice to be home one day early...tomorrow is a rest day...ater Threepeat's dentist appointment at 9:00 am. I will be in bed by 8:00 tonight my friends...

Great trip, great memories, will DEFINITELY do this again next year.

Wahhh....

Where has the week gone? We head home tomorrow. I just can't believe how fast this vacay went. And the kicker is that we really did nothing. We chilled out every day except yesterday. A totally relaxing holiday...just what the doctor ordered.

I am thinking we will pay the extra $35.00 late check out charge and stay until about 5:00 pm tomorrow and drive through the night. At least then, we will have a few more hours of sunshine before we head back to the tundra of the GTA. I hear the weather has been great there, but the forecast is calling for zero degrees when we head home. I'll take this 24 degree weather ANYDAY thank you very much.

A little video that I hope will make you smile....I took it yesterday at the Fun Stop...

Today is a bit of a disappointment

It's overcast and showers have been threatening all day. We decided to go to Wonder Works, but while we were in Bob Evans for lunch, the skies cleared up and it looked gorgeous, so we headed back home and the kids swam. But, within half an hour, the skies darkened and it got cold. Sigh...

It's 4:30 now and it's still cold and overcast, so it's looking like the mini-golf game we promised will have to wait another day too.

But, all is not lost...I had my beloved Bob Evans...ooooh I love me som Bob Evans. I chose the "Knife and Fork Turkey Sandwich" this time and loved every mouthful. Mmmmm....mmmm....

I am quite impressed with something in particular about the States....I mean, I love almost everything about this great country, but one of the things that stands out is that family restaurants do not sell alcohol. I mean, you all know how I love my wine, but I love the idea that if you are with your kids, at a family restaurant, you drink pop...errrr....soda or water or iced tea. And speaking of iced tea...that's one thing that sucks in the States...either your unsweetened iced tea is chokable or your sweetened iced tea is so sweet, your cheeks pucker. Hmm....wonder why that is.

Over and out for now...

Another lazy day

around the pool.

At 5:00, we headed out to Olive Garden for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meal, except me. I had a shrimp and asparagus risotto that was more like oil soup...it was horrible. When the waitress asked if I wanted to take it home, I politely declined and told her it was too oily. Within moments, the manager came over, apologized and told me he had taken my meal off the bill. He asked if I would like to take a dessert home with me on the house, but I thanked him very much and declined. It was nice of him to do that.

We made smores on our second disposal BBQ of the week, which Boy Oneder loved. We watched AFV together and now, at 11:23 pm, everyone is snuggled in their beds and I am blogging...wide awake...LOL. I have something weighing on my mind...

Yesterday morning, I noticed that Threepeat had white spots all over his top two front teeth and one on the top right canine tooth. Upon closer examination, I saw that there were two holes in his top right tooth. I was mortified. Threepeat hates brushing his teeth and it has been a struggle since day one to get them cleaned. He nearly vomits when I use ANY type of toothpaste, even though it's in a miniscule amount. He also still goes to bed with a bottle of milk...until last night. I emailed Anna, a lovely girl who worked with my sister at the dental office and sent her a few photos. She was so kind and actually sent the photos to the dentist and based on what he can see, it's cavities:

I feel sick. So, he went to bed after I brushed his teeth (with toothpaste) last night with no bottle and that made him very sad. I brushed his teeth with toothpaste after breakfast, lunch and at bedtime and again he went to bed with no bottle. He was very, very sad about that and so was I. :o(

I have packed up all of his bottles and put them out of sight. If he really has major issues with missing his bottle, I will give him water in a bottle. He only has his bottle at nap and bedtime, and I know it's more of a comfort thing than needing the actual milk. Sigh...

So, my first order of business when I get home is to get him in to the dentist and have the cavities dealt with as quickly as possible. In the meantime, I will brush his teeth after every meal and reduce his sugary foods and juice.

Bad, Bad, BAD Mommy.

Annie...

Sometimes, we meet people who just make you feel comfortable, even though you are meeting them for the first time. Karen was one of those people. I have blogged about her a few times and continue to have a close relationship with her. We met over the internet and I can't imagine life without her now.

Tonight, I met Annie...she is a member of a private board that I joined when I was pregnant with Threepeat. There are so many nice ladies over there, and being the Grandma of the board, I think I was able to give some advice, as well as GET alot of much needed advice from the youngsters. Annie is one of those youngsters. When we came to Florida last year, we tried to get together, but it never came to fruition. Tonight, we made it happen and I am SO glad we did. She drove over (a half an hour drive for her) and picked me up for coffee at the local Crispers. The coffee was no comparison to my beloved Timmy's (and Annie is a Timmy's lover) but the company was awesome. I felt like I had known her for years and years. The hour that we spent together FLEW by. I think we could have chatted for hours more. We seem to have alot in common and I'm sure a longer chat would have proved that.

Much to my complete embarrassment, I left the house with no American cash, so Annie, graciously paid for our coffees. I vowed to "pay her back" with a can of Tim Horton's coffee that I will mail to her as soon as I get home.

Gosh, I wish Annie lived closer. I am sure we would be very close.

Sigh....

Well, at least I have an excuse to come back again next year!

Sunshiney happiness...

It was a b-e-a-uuuuuutiful day here in Davenport, Florida. We spent the day lazing around the pool and just chilling out.

Right now, Hubster is at Walmart with the boys and MIL is here watching TV. I just put four huge baking potatoes in the oven and will set up our $3.99 disposable BBQ together in preparation for our steaks and burgers. Mmmmmmm.....

Tonight, we will play some games...pool, air hockey and board games and just be together...after the kids go to bed, Hubster and I may take a stroll around the 'hood together, holding hands under the light of the moon. Sigh....

The weather is looking promising for the week and we hope to hit the beach on Wednesday because it is looking like the warmest day at 72 degrees. Friday looks good too, so maybe we will hit another beach then.

I read that the temperature in Toronto is a balmy 3 degrees celcius today. Sorry to my Torontonian pallies...I will try to bring the sunshine and warmth home with me.

Ciao for now...

Safe and sound...

Well, we made it to our house, safe and sound and I *think* I am still sane!!! The 4.5 hours' drive today was worse than the 18 hours yesterday, believe it or not. Me thinks that an overnight drive home is the ticket to my continued sane state.

Our house is perfect, as it always is here and the kids are having a blast. The weather was nice this afternoon, 24 degrees and sunny, but windy. Tomorrow's forecast is lovely, 24 degrees and mainly sunny, so we will be spending the day in our backyard, soaking up the rays and watching the kids wrinkle up in the pool.

I am so very blessed and life is wonderful tonight.

Savannah, Georgia...

Well, we made i to Savannah, Georgia in a little over 18 hours. We left home at about 10:45 and arrived here at 4:30. We are at a brand spanking new Embassy Suites (4 days old to be exact) and I am coming at you from our free in-room wireless internet while MIL, Hubster and the boys are at the pool. The weather is quite yucky (drizzley and 20 degrees) but there is GREEN grass and no snow! WOOT WOOT!

We will finish our travels tomorrow after our free "cooked to order" breakfast and maybe a little shopping ;o) We are about 495 kms from our destination in Davenport, Florida, so that equates to about 4.5 hours. After the kids' behaviour in the car for the past 18 hours, 4.5 will be a piece of cake. They were AMAZING. Threepeat slept from about 11:20 to 6:15 and the older boys slept almost as long. Hubster drove until 7:00 and I took over so that he could sleep for a few hours and then we switched a few times throughout the day. We drove through cloudy, rainy weather ALL the way down and in some parts of West Virginia and Virginia, the fog was like pea soup...pretty scary. I didn't sleep much through the night (very difficult to sleep in a car, almost upright), but I will make up for that with a great night's sleep in a bed that has never been slept in!!!

When the boys get back from the pool, we will shower and then head down to the lobby for the Manager's Reception (read as free booze from 5:30 to 7:30) and then head off to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner. We should be home by 9:00, just in time for a nice, long, much needed sleep.

Thanks to everyone for their comments, emails and FB messages wishing us a good trip! We love you all!

"Talk" to you all later!!

Off we go...

Florida or Bust...

We are leaving tonight for our road trip to Davenport, Florida (just outside of Orlando). Middleman has a soccer practice at 6:30 and then Boy Oneder has what will probably be his last hockey game of the season at 8:15 in Scarborough. As soon as Boy Oneder is done, we will head home, the kids will put on their jammies and we will drive off into the night.

Hubster is sleeping right now, in preparation for an overnight drive. I will hopefully get enough rest while he drives to get some good miles behind us during the day tomorrow. I figure that by the time we stop for the night tomorrow, we will be somewhere in Georgia. A few hours' drive on Saturday and our trusty GPS will declare, "You have reached your destination".

Praying for some nice weather because Florida has been mighty cold this year and praying for healthy kids (see here and here for THAT drama). I figure third time's a charm, right?

I will be updating my blog and of course, my beloved Facebook from the free wireless zone at Denny's as often as I can, so you can keep track of our whereabouts.

We will leave on Saturday and hope to be home by Monday afternoon, March the 22nd.

Have a great week!

Random Ramblings...

I've still got nuthin' because I didn't sleep last night, therefore, I couldn't dream up a great blog post....sooooo....I'll give you some randomness instead:

  • We are leaving for Florida on Thursday night. We're staying in the same subdivision we have stayed in for the past two years, just outside of Orlando. We don't plan on going to the parks or spending lots of money because we are broke. I am praying that the weather gets better because the whole week will consist of going to the beach and swimming in our pool. We are driving down. I don't expect to remain sane.

  • Our new business is nearly ready to go. When we get home, We Be Jump'n will be our lives as we try to recover some of the astronomical start up costs. If you live in the GTA or know someone who does, watch for a giveaway coming up soon!

  • My arm hurts...alot. I got a tetanus booster at my annual physical yesterday and it really, really hurts.

  • Please pray for little Layla Grace. She is dying of neuroblastoma and is on her last few days. Please pray for a peaceful passing and for strength for her parents and two sisters in the coming weeks.

  • The sunshine has been lovely over the last couple of days. I am hoping that spring has actually sprung and that this is not just a March tease!

  • If you need any printing/logo design, Big Daddy Kreativ is your man. He designed our logo and business cards and is just awesome! Thanks Craig!

  • Our website rocks, thanks to Angie at Angela Vinez Designs. Angie is so patient and so creative. Go and pay her a visit if you need a web page designed!

  • From the looks of my footer, I drink WAY too much coffee and have NO luck whatsoever. So what that I won two donuts...I don't EAT donuts. Sigh...

Annual Physical Day

UGH...

Tomorrow morning is my annual physical appointment. UGH-O-RAMA.

Nothing starts my morning off right like a needle in the arm, losing what feels like 2 gallons of blood for every test under the sun, being violated by a cold piece of metal and having my boobs squeezed and massaged by someone other than my husband.

Yippeee.....

P.S. Check out my Rrroll up the Rrrim stats....sickening to say the least.

Hockey, hockey and more hockey!

And I LOVE it!!

Boy Oneder's team starts his Scarborough tournament tonight with a game at my old workplace. I worked as a snack bar attendant at this arena for about 4 years, and eventually got promoted to secretary for a couple of years while I was in high school. I met a couple of my first boyfriends there and have so many good memories. Boy Oneder had a game there earlier in the season and being there was such a warm and fuzzy feeling...nothing had changed...even the hot dogs on the grill were 20 years old! (Of course, I jest...they couldn't be more than a couple of months old ;o) )

He plays again tomorrow night and Saturday and then, if they make it through, on Sunday as well. Can't wait!

Go Devils Go!

Leap of Faith

Please excuse the pun...

Hubster and I are starting up a new business. We Be Jump'n is a bouncy castle rental company. We will have 5 or 6 different castles to choose from and a fun house as well. We have enlisted the help of Big Daddy Kreativ for our logo design and business cards/posters. He is absolutely fantastic and we HIGHLY recommend him! His creativity and professionalism is second to none. Thanks so much Craig!

Angie is designing our webpage, which is currently under construction, and we are SO pumped to see what she is going to come up with!! She is awesome too! I'll let you know once she has worked her magic!

So, we are taking a leap of faith, praying that our hard work will pay off. Neither of us have any intention of quitting our jobs and making this a full time venture, but a nice supplemental income would really help! Heck, at this point, I just want to break even...do you have any idea how much it costs to start up a business???? WOW!

So, if you are in the Greater Toronto Area and need a bouncy castle, call us!

Rrroll Up the Rrrim...

Yes folks, it's my favourite time of the year at Tim Horton's...time for "Rrroll Up the Rrrim to Win"...or "Rrroll Up the Rrrim to try again" is more like it for me...I never win. Sigh.

I buy a large coffee every.single.morning...holidays included. You would think that would be worth SOMETHING. Last year, I think I won a few donuts and several cookies...I never eat the donuts or the cookies, so I gave those winning tabs away. Sigh.

But this year will be different...I just KNOW it. This year, I will win the car; or the plasma TV; or a coffee. Sigh.

I will be adding my winnings (and losings) to the footer of each of my posts, as I have done in the past, just so you can all share in the excitement along with me (rolls eyes). Happy Rim Rolling!

SPORTS!!

The Canadian Men's Hockey Team gave us all heart palpitations as they took the gold finals into overtime. The US team scored a goal with 22 seconds left in the game to turn our 2-1 lead into a 2-2 tie! Sydney Crosby made us all proud with a beautiful goal to win the gold medal. Wow. I don't think I know ANYONE who didn't watch at least part of that brilliant game! I have really enjoyed the Olympic games this time around. I've been so emotional, watching our competitors receive their medals, watching our flag waving strongly as it's raised up high and seeing the pride on the competitor's faces...brilliant. Oh and don't even get me started on that "I Believe" song. I have sobbed like a baby so many times while listening to that beautiful song. I will truly miss watching the games!

Middleman' hockey team, after winning the first two games of the playoffs and tying the third, lost their game on Sunday morning, shutting down their 2009/2010 season. :o( They played so well together and I will certainly miss his games!

Boy Oneder's houseleague team played their last regular season game on Sunday. losing 2-1. His playoffs begin next weekend, but he will miss that first game because he's in a select tournament in Scarborough all weekend.

Middleman' indoor soccer team also finished off their season with a heartbreaking loss to the "A" team. They have come so far and really held their own on Saturday night against a team that is way out of their league. Practices will continue through March and April and then we will start the outdoor season at the end of April. We will have several tournaments in the summer, beginning with our home tournament in May. We will then compete in tournaments in Collingwood, St. Catherines and Ottawa. It should be a ton of fun, even though I despise soccer as a sport, the team spirit will be fantastic!

Threepeat is going strong with Little Gym and tonight is "Prince and Princess Night". He is to bring a friend and has chosen Kathryn from next door as his "princess". He really, really loves it there, and it's great for getting rid of some of his endless energy!

I am thinking of getting back into horseback riding this spring. That will be my research project for this evening.
