My little fish

Julian had his first swimming lesson tonight and it went...well...SWIMMINGLY!!

Joe went in the water with him tonight and he loved every moment...splashing, blowing bubbles and jumping into Daddy's arms...it was great!

Grandma, Nanna, Frankie, Nicholas and I all watched from the viewing room and had a laugh...such fun!

Of course, bring our third child, i didn`t even cross my mind to take a camera...BAD MOMMY. I will have some to share next week.

Speaking of photos, I treated myself to Photoshop today at Costco. I`m off to figure out how to use it!

HAHAHAHA!

Gotta love productiveness!!

WOW I had a productive day!! Joe took all three kids out late this morning so that I could clean the bathrooms, dust and do some laundry. PTL! I got SO much accomplished! YAY ME!

I still have a ton of laundry to get through, but walking by the boys' rooms and walking into mine is no longer a source of major stress! I can see the floor in all three bedrooms and it feeeeelsssss gooooooooood!

This afternoon, we all went to Walmart and I got to see Julian's devilishness in action. He purposely runs away and then hides behind racks of clothing or aisles of merchandise. He actually grabbed a shopping basket, dragged it behind him, waving all the time and yelling, "Bye!!! Me shopping now! BYeeeeeee!" Little brat. He found his way over to the greeter, a little old man who was the cutest thing ever. Julian handed over his basket to the greeter and the greeter gave him six smiley stickers. Thanks Mr. Greeter Guy. Way to encourage bad behaviour. After he got his stickers, of course, Julian had to run back to Frankie, Nicholas and Joe to show them off. As we left, he kept asking, "Where Mr. Man go?" When we got to the door, he noticed the greeter and ran over to give him the BIGGEST hug ever. Mr. Man was very pleased. He told me, "That's one great kid you have there!"

Another great day. Life is good.

Tim Hortons Roll Up the Rim

Today is the last day that you will see my Tim Hortons Roll Up the Rim stats.

I am done.

If I didn't love the coffee so much, I would boycott them forever. The chances of winning are supposedly 1 in 9...my arse! No one I know has won ANYTHING...except my ONE free coffee.

Timmy...I am deeply offended and angry with you. Grrrrr....

Family day

Today was all about the fam.

Last night, Alexander, Nicholas' friend from down the street, slept over. They were very good and very quiet. I think they had alot of fun together. This morning, Julian, Alexander and Nicholas each enjoyed a big bowl of Nesquik cereal...yeah, yeah...I'm a bad mother. Julian sucked back every bite and then sucked the chocolate milk out of the bowl with a straw. Bless his heart.

Once Frankie woke up, as per usual, all hell broke loose. Frankie and Nicholas fought over everything...EV.ER.Y.THING. At 10:30, I had had enough and sent all four boys to the park while I did a load of laundry and had a shower.

At around 11:30, I fed them all chicken noodle soup, cucumber and tomato salad and olives (I was making up for the Nesquik thing) and they wolfed it down like they hadn't eaten in weeks.

Anthony came to pick up Alexander at around noon and then I sent Frankie and Nick to their rooms for an hour to cool off (and so that I could get some peace). I took Jules for a drive and grabbed a Timmy's coffee...notice the ridiculousness of my signature...Roll Up the Rim is a SCAM. Anyhoo...I digress...Julian fell asleep and I continued to drive for a whil because it was a beautiful, sunny day.

When I got home, he woke up almost instantly after about a 45 minute nap...crap. Joe had a shower and Frankie and Nicholas headed over to the grocery store on their bikes to grab some treats. They played football with a bunch of friends for about half an hour and then we headed over to Grandma's house at about 3:30. We played with Lucy (gosh she is cute) and had a great roast pork dinner (thanks Mom!) We took Rosie with us to Grandma's, so we all went for a nice walk around "Lollipop Land" after our big meal. Lucy has SO much energy! Poor Mom.

At about 7:15, Julian was beginning to melt down a bit (and so was I), so we packed up and headed home. Julian was asleep in the car by 7:30.

We transferred Jules into bed and then I ran out to the store to get some chips. When I got back, we lit a TON of candles and played "Sorry" by candlelight to celebrate Earth Hour. I, of course, KILLED Joe and Nicholas. (Frankie was working on his Kumon that he refused to do earlier, so he didn't play, but he did sit at our candlelit table to do it.

At 9:00, Frankie and I grabbed our laptops (battery powered of course) and headed up to his room, where we both are now, lying in bed, surfing the net in the dark.

I love the moments that we spend as a family...I just wish I could stop the incessant fighting, bickering and negativity that Frankie and Nicholas constantly do...it's driving me NUTS!

Did you do your part for Earth Hour?

I HAVE to weigh in.

So, I JUST posted a blog post and then I read this and just HAD to give my 2 cents...ok...my 2 DOLLARS.

What.a.freak. Those poor, poor children.

I know how difficult it is to have ONE child, TWO children, THREE children. The thought of FOUR-EFFING-TEEN children is ridiculous. Octomom is a mental case who needs help...FAST.

I cannot fathom how those poor children, let alone the new babies, are getting the attention, food, love and care they all need. The disfunctional relationship with her parents doesn't help matters. O.M.Gosh (that's for YOU anonymous) I am sickened by it all.

And we need licences to own dogs.

What a messed up world we live in.

The good, the bad and the ugly....

Such a cliche....

Anyhooo...

The good: Nicholas made it to the "Battle of the Books" team. Six kids, chosen from the school to represent in the reading challenge. Nicholas has to read an dmemorize 11 books for the school to school challenge. I am SO proud of him. GO NICK!

I got an award at work today...the first to get a perfect score on our new client survey...YAY ME!

Frankie rode his bike all the way to the grocery store alone tonight to buy milk. I am so proud of him it hurts...pre-teen hormones and all.

Julian is brilliant. He speaks in full sentences, eats Chinese food like a champ and is the cutest almost two year old I've ever known.

Alexander, the neighbour boy, is sleeping over tonight. What a great kid.

The bad: I am so far behind with laundry that it's embarrassing. The piles are ridiculously high. UGH.

I got my period today and feel like crapola.

I am VERY mad at Tim Hortons. Damn them. Chances or winning are apparently 1 in 9. I have bought 34 coffees and have one win...a stinking coffee. I am not even counting the daily coffee that I buy for Joe every morning with mine. He has won one stinkin' donut. Bunch of crap. If I wasn't so in love with the actual coffee, I would boycot them for the principle. But alas, I am a Timmy's addict. Damn.

The ugly:

Last night, I was carrying a bowl of piping hot rice to the table, when Julian decided to back his ride on truck right into my path. I jumped over him, misjudged and fell square on my butt, spilling amazingly hot rice over my hand and arm. Julian escaped unscathed, but my hand and arm are blistered and my butt is bruised and terribly sore. Crap. A mother takes the pain for her kid every time.

So, my friends, there you have it...the good, the bad and the ugly.

Non-Bloggers don't get it.

MckMuffin's story has affected me deeply. As deeply as Joshua's story and Audrey's story and Hailainah's story, Tricia and Gwyneth's story and so many others that I can't call to mind right now.

Blogging has been SO therapeutic for me. I can't even explain why, but it just has. If you are a hard core blogger like me, then you "get it". Otherwise, you just don't.

I put my life out here for the world to see almost every day. I don't know why I don't just buy a journal and write it privately. It's not about recognition, comments or justification for my feelings...I guess it's just knowing that I have touched someone, somewhere, out there in the blogosphere.

I have struggled with my faith on many occasions, but one thing has held true for me...the power of prayer is an amazing thing. I truly believe with every ounce of my being that prayer changes things...and the more people praying for the same thing, the better. What better way to get the word out that you need prayer than through your blog? True bloggers seem to find a bond with one another that is truly unexplainable to those who have not experienced it. My mind and heart have been completely obsessed with Stellan (MckMuffin) over the past two days. I think of him hourly, if not more. I woke up four times last night and he was the first thought on my mind. I prayed for him each time, along with, at last count on the comments on his MckMama's blog, 782 other people. Truly amazing.

I have never met this baby. I know nothing about his mother or his family other than what she has written on her blog, but my heart hurts for them as if they were my own family. I can't stop thinking about them.

Being a blogger has opened my world to so many people. I feel their hurts, I laugh at their jokes and I revel in their happiness. I have made new friends...friends who mean the world to me, like Saira and Karen and Kia. I have learned so much and grown so much just by reading strangers' blogs. I can tell you things about medical conditions I had never even HEARD of before I started blogging. I find it absolutely incredible.

Anyway, I don't really know the purpose of this post, but I needed to blog out my feelings tonight.

Gosh...what was my life before blogging anyway??!!

Special Day

Tonight, Joe, the kids and I are going to Kathy and Bruno's house for dinner...Katrina, their oldest, turned 13 on March 6th and we missed her party because we were in Florida.

Most people treat the 16th birthday as the big birthday, but to me, becoming a teenager is a bigger deal. What's so big about turning 16 anyway? I mean, turning 13 is a BIG deal! So, we bought her an extra special, extra expensive gift this year. I am sure she will love it. I just can't wait to give it to her. I will take photos tonight and share them here.

Tim Horton's Roll Up the Rim

I am a Timmy's addict. I drink a large one cream, two sugars every single day of my existence...except on vacation where the rest of the world is not enlightened to the bliss that is Timmy's...sometimes, I even drink two coffees...but I digress.

During "Roll Up the Rim" time at Timmy's, I usually get lucky enough to win a coffee, but most times, it's a donut or a freaking cookie...who eats their cookies anyway? But this year? I have won ONE STINKING COFFEE. That is ridiculous. I don't want the car or the tv's or whatever else they are pawning off. I just want FREE COFFEE! Clearl, that is too much to ask from Timmy's. Damn.

I am getting really annoyed at my "Please play again" cups. I even swear when I open them these days. I roll my eyes and shout a curse word. Thank goodness I usually drink my coffee in my home office...peeps would think I am mental...shut up...I am NOT mental...not really anyway.

In non-Timmy's related news, Frankie and Nicholas are finished with March break hockey camp. They loved every hardworking minute of it. They raved about it every evening and are sad that it's over...even though they are both in bed, out cold already. Joe and I signed them up for two weeks of the same camp in the summer...they are pumped. YAY GRANDMA for giving them such a fantastic March break!

It occured to me that I haven't updated about Julian lately. This kid is a genius. Clearly, he took from MY side of the family....snort. He is talking in sentences and is brilliant all around. He can build massive towers out of blocks, jam containers, cream containers, even CROUTONS! He loves "Max and Ruby", "Little Bear" and "Barney" and can explain the storyline for the shows. He goes on the big kid slides and refuses to insult himself by swinging on the baby swings...he MUST go on the big boy swings. His imagination is unbelievable and he is just...well...genius!

We have a busy weekend ahead. I hope you all have a great one!

Struggling

In a world where people are losing their jobs by the hundreds, I am very blessed to have my job...this I know. I lose sleep over the fact that Joe or I may be laid off tomorrow and the thought just makes me feel sick.

My heart breaks for all of those who are struggling right now...those who have just been given the news and those who are sitting on pins and needles waiting for the news. Those who have been out of work for a short time and those who have been out for a long time.

If you are one of those people, please know that I am praying for you. I pray that you will find work quickly and that your struggle is a short one. I truly believe that when God closes a door, He will always open a window. I hope your window is open wide...and SOON!

Do do do do do do do do....

You are now entering the "Twilight Zone"...

Picture a time, a place....ok whatever...

Last night at 2:00, Joe woke me up and asked me if I had just taken a shower. Duh. It's 2:00 am...no I did NOT just take a shower. He says he smells soap and that it smelled like someone had just taken a shower in our ensuite. I tell him he is crazy and that he must be dreaming and roll over.

Joe insists on investigating. He goes into our washroom and says, "Dawn...someone just took a shower...come and see!"

I stumbled out of bed and he showed me that the floor was wet and the shower had fresh drips on the door. The bathroom was a bit steamy too. WTF?

We go into the hallway and the linen closet door is open. Joe says, "Do you think Frankie took a shower?!" I said, "Of course not...it's the middle of the night!"

He went down the hall to Frankie's room and found him sound asleep, with soaking wet hair. Joe woke him up and asked him if he had just taken a shower. Frankie replied sleepily that he thought it was later and yes, had taken a shower. Joe said he was half asleep when he answered.

Now, Frankie has been a sleep walker for quite some time. We put a bolt on the front door, way up high, just so that if he happened to decide to go for a walk in the middle of the night, he couldn't reach the bolt.

This morning, I asked Frankie about the shower. He says the first thing he remembers is stepping into the shower. He said he had a shower, thinking it was morning, but can only remember bits and pieces of the actual shower. The next thing he remembers, he was back in bed, looking at his clock, thinking it was weird that it was only 1:52 am. He thought it was morning already. He remembers nothing else. He doesn't remember Joe waking him up.

Although it's kinda funny, I must admit that it worries me that he can get up and do something like have a shower, but not remember it fully. It scares me that he could do something bad and not remember doing it!

Anyone else have a sleepwalker in their house?

Wow.

It's 8:34 pm and my two oldest boys are out for the count. Frankie went to bed at 8:00 with a migraine and Nicholas was told that he could read until 8:30, but when I checked on him at 8:08, he was out cold...he didn't even have the energy to brush his teeth! I HEART HOCKEY CAMP!

I feel so bad for Frankie...he gets migraines when he is overtired and believe me, I know migraines. They are wicked. Hopefully, the Advil kicked in before he fell asleep, bless his heart.

Nicholas had to be boosted into his bed because his legs ache so badly...LOL! This camp is really hard work! They are loving every moment of it and are learning SO much. I snuck in this afternoon for literally two minutes on my way home from a client's office and I saw Frankie on the ice. He was training with another member of the Toronto Marlies and you could just tell he loved every second. I am SO glad Mom did this for them.

If they were not at camp, they would be home, fighting, watching TV and driving both MIL and I crazy. This camp, although it is knocking them out, is phenomenal. What a concept! Check it out for yourself: www.torontoprohockeyschool.com

Julian has been spending alot of time outside in the fantastic weather for the last three days...the neighbs are out in full force, and we spend the evenings out front, chit chatting and watching the kids play. Have I mentioned that I have the best neighbours in the world? Yeah, I think I have. Sebastian and Francesco, Mary and Jack's twins are 16 months old and are hilarious. They are SO alike and I mix them up all the time. For Mary's sanity, they spend most of their evenings strapped in their wagon. They are very busy boys and to keep up with them is a nightmare. They are so good and quite content to just sit in the wagon and watch the world go by. All the other kids (9 of them) enjoyed a game of hockey on our driveway and Maria played goalie...what a hoot. Again, I say...great neighbours.

Now, I will turn to my trusty book, "Eclipse". I have to catch up with Mary...she just finished the last book of the Twilight series. She's hooked too...clearly.

NHL Hockey Camp

Thanks to Grandma, my boys are at the camp of a lifetime this week. Grandma paid for them both to attend the NHL Professional Hockey Camp at a local arena. They will be taught by Darryl Sittler and several other NHL/Junior A Hockey players.

They have three hours a day on the ice and the rest of the time is dry land training on things like platys, stretches, stick handling, etc. This is truly the chance of a lifetime. They were SO excited this morning...I can't wait to hear how much they learned and how much fun they had!!

I'll keep you posted.

The Red Violin

Last night, Franca, Eddie, Marylinda, Jack, Lino, Tina, Maria, Anthony, Joe and I went out for the first time as couples...sans kids. WHAT A BLAST!

Marylinda chose the venue...The Red Violin, an authentic Brazilian restaurant on the Danforth. WHAT an AMAZING choice!

Our reservations were for 7:00 and we arrived right on time. We had a drink while we waited for the others to arrive and then the feast began! We started with an all you can eat salad/sushi/appetizer bar which was kept refreshed all night long. Joe and the other boys drooled over the mussels and shrimp, while I stuck to sushi and various salads. When we were ready, the waitress brought us each a card with a red side and a green side. Green meant "bring on the food!" and red meant "ok, I've had enough!" We were served side dishes of grilled veggies, sauteed mushrooms, fried plantains (OMG MMMM!), rice, black beans and bacon and flava flour. Then came the meat. Oh.my.GOSH, the meat. Several men brought skewers of everything from chicken to turkey and bacon to steak, beef, veal, ribs, lamb chops, sausages, more chicken, more beef, more steak and it just kept coming! You were to use your tongs to take the slice of meat from the skewers and each one was better than the last. I am SUCH a meat lover, but le me tell you, I certainly had my fill of meat last night. Absolutely delicious! For dessert, they served hot pineapple coated in cinnamon (OMG was it good!)

There were Brazilian dancers and acrobat/martial arts specialists doing the most amazing things with their bodies! We were all invited to dance with them and let me tell you, I have not had such a good time in a LONG time!! The drinks were flowing and the food was hard to keep up with!

When it was all over, each couple owed $220.00...I know, that's a HECK of alot of money, but it was worth every single penny. I don't know what was better...the food, the company or the entertainment. Joe and I NEVER go out on dates, so $220.00 was a bargain if you average it out over the course of our marriage. I would pay it again in a heartbeat for the quality of food, service and entertainment!

GREAT, GREAT fun and food! Visit The Red Violin...you will NOT be disappointed!

GORGEOUS weekend!

What a GREAT weekend we had...busy, as usual, but we made some time to be outside today in the beautiful sunshine and all is well in the world!

Julian went up and down the slide a bazillion times and loved it more and more as he did it! It was SO cute.

We played road hockey and just had a family blast!

Last night, Joe and I went out with the four other neighbour couples to The Red Violin, a Brazilian restaurant that was TO DIE FOR! I will give a full run down either tonight, once Jules is out for the night or tomorrow morning.

I hope you all had as great a weekend as I had!!

Disappointed

I finally have an opportunity to go away by myself...no kids, no hubby. Just me and the girls. I was SO excited about it...but it ain't gonna happen.

My friends either have the time, but not the money or have the money, but not the time. For once in my life, I have a little of both, but won't be able to take advantage of it. That makes me so sad. :o(

I'm not upset with my friends...I know if the time and money were there, that they would love to come, but I am disappointed in the timing and the lost opportunity.

Sigh.

How lame would it be for me to spend a weekend alone in a local hotel? Would you think I was a loser if I did it? This is coming from me, who would never sit in a restaurant or go to a movie alone...I MUST be desperate for time away.

Bedside Blessings

Recently, I made a trip to Oakville to the Family Christian Bookstore to pick up three books that caught my eye on their website.

One of these books is called "Bedside Blessings" by Charles R. Swindoll. It is a collection of inspirational thoughts, one for each day of the year. I highly recommend this book. It has been so, for lack of a better word, INSPIRATIONAL, to me. The pages seem to be so appropriate for me on the right date. Amazing.

Another thing that amazed me was the horoscope on my igoogle today...again, amazing. SO appropriate and accurate. Only the person that I have in mind will "get" this:

Again, I say, amazing.

Wednesday Why's

Why is it that the windiest days are always garbage days? Today is garbage day and there is stuff ALL over the street because of the strong winds.

Why is it that all of said garbage ends up on OUR lawn? Ugh.

Why do my kids have to go to the lamest school in the province? We saw Kathy and Bruno's daughters in a play that their school put on last night and it was PHENOMENAL! Such a fantastic production. It was "Grease" and Katrina was Frenchie. Such an amazing play. Last year they did "Wizard of Oz" and it was just as good. Our school? No play. No lavish production. Nothing.

Why doesn't Tim Hortons get a better lid supplier? They never open properly and I end up having to cut the tab off most of the time. And while we are on the topic of Tim Hortons, I ask for the 100th time, WHY is it so difficult for a human being to follow instructions? I asked for the same coffee I request every single morning...a large, one cream, two sugar. One cream means that the coffee is still quite strong and the two sugars make it taste just right. This morning, my coffee looks like a triple cream and there is definitely only one sugar in that sucker. Damn I hate that.

Why can't my house stay clutter free for one day? ONE.DAY. I clean up one room and there is a mess waiting in the other room. The kicker? Most of the time, the clutter is mine. Damn.

Why haven't I won the lottery yet? I'm not getting any younger and could really use a little puff in the pocketbook. Come on...I only want a million or two.

OMG..

Yes, anonymous, I said it again...dry up.

Can you say, "BACK TO REALITY"?

Work was CRAZY today and will continue to BE crazy all MONTH. Yes folks, I am going to go MENTAL in March. I guess I should be grateful I have a job, and I am, believe me, but this is CRAZY busy.

I had a client appointment that I put off until Wednesday because of my flu-like symptoms this afternoon. Although I am feeling a bit better tonight, I am FAR from 100%, so a day at home, catching up on 143 emails...yes, I said 143 emails...Ooops...there's 144...since I left on Friday. I *am* an important gal, aren't I?

I will be writing again tonight I think, once the kids go to bed...this daylight savings thing is a killer. Hmmm...what else can I bore you with? More later gaters.
