I just HAVE to.

A few members of my family and I have had an ongoing debate lately. I will leave out the names because it really doesn't matter WHO I am debating with...just WHAT I am debating.

I don't think we will ever see eye to eye on this issue. The issue? Homosexuality.

Yep...I can only IMAGINE what my keyword analysis is going to look like this week, but heeeere we go...

This may come as a shock to some of you, and some of you may already know this, but, I have NO problem WHATSOEVER with homosexuality. None. Zero. Zip. I am not gay...kinda obvious me thinks, considering that I have been married for 15.5 years, but, just in case there was any question...I am straighter than a board.

I have absolutely NO issues with people being gay, gay people getting married, gay people adopting children, gay people living just as straight people.

This has sparked quite a debate in my small but vocal family. Some people feel that being gay is a lifestyle choice...a whim, a sexual deviance. I, on the other hand, feel that being gay is something that is in you from birth. It is no more a choice than having blue eyes. Sure, you can be born with brown eyes and wear coloured contacts, PRETENDING to have blue eyes, but when push comes to shove, you have brown eyes. Homosexuals are sometimes forced to pretend they are straight, but deep down, they never really were. They are living the life that society says they should live.

It really and truly makes me sick to think that someone would have to be SO oppressed that they needed to pretend to love someone because they are the right sex.

I have several gay friends, both men and women. They are NO different than any of my straight friends...except maybe that they are more compassionate, more accepting and, to be honest, HAPPIER! They are at a point where they have "come out" and are living their lives as they want to...happy and in love. Who CARES if the person they love is the wrong sex? Who CARES what happens in their bedrooms? I think it's safe to say that per capita, there are probably MANY more deviant heterosxuals in the bedroom than there are homosexuals. I shudder to think about some of the things that go on in "Christian" or "wholesome" bedrooms!

I can honestly say that one of the gay couples that I know would make FAR better parents than many of the straight couples I know. Sadly, this couple will probably never be parents. They will never pass on all of the wonderful qualities that each of them possess. It really is a shame...they are wonderful human beings.

I wish that so-called "God fearing and righteous people" both in AND outside of my family would just live and let live. What difference does it make to YOU what someone's sexual orientation is? Leave others alone. LIVE AND LET LIVE!!! Trust me when I say that NONE of us is perfect. Focus on your own shortcomings...leave other people alone.

UGH. Pin It

Couldn't have said it better Dawn!!
But oh boy this is such a hotbed of debate. I love getting into this debate with people who think they know it all but have absolutely no experience other than what they've been led to believe.
A lifestyle choice OMG! No more so than you and I deciding to become lesbians, couldn't happen! I'd love to come and enjoy an afternoon with your family members and let them debate the issue with us both!! Oh please, please let me! LOL
The problem usually stems from religious fanatics who misquote the bible...or rather interpret God's so called words to fit their own sensibilities!
As you know my sister is Gay but she is also quite religious and when confronted with a JW who threw her "sin" at her, quoting God's words from the bible, was able to more efficiently quote that very same bible passage shedding a different light on it to turn the meaning around.
And you're right, statistically there are more heterosexual deviants than homosexual!
OK blood is boiling now, gotta go find something warm and fuzzy to read to calm me down!
Love you, not in a gay way though LOL
