Runny nose season has begun...

The morning, evenings and nights are crisp and the days are still nice and warm...I love the fall...if only winter wasn't waiting behind it!

Threepeat has a cold. His nose is running like a fountain and his face is all red from wiping and blowing. Poor baby.

It could, however, be worse...poor Marylinda, my neighbour, has been through hell and back over the last three weeks. First, Jordanna contracted lice. No one knows where from, but it was a week long ordeal of nit-picking (excuse the pun), shampooing with horrible pesticide, cleaning, repeat. Then, once they were clear of lice, Jordanna got a fever. Nothing ever came of it, but the fever lasted about three days.

On Monday night at 8:00, Francesco, one of the 22 month old twins, had a febrile seizure. This is his second one. The ambulance took him off to emergency, declared that he had an ear infection and sent them all home. At 7:00 the next morning, Sebastian, the other twin, had a febrile seizure...his first. Back in the ambulance to the ER, where they checked him out, said it was viral and sent them home. Tonight, Jordanna has a fever. Poor Mary just can't catch a break!

All this talk of sickness has got me thinking about the flu shot. We have gotten the flu shot every year since Dad was diagnosed with leukemia in 2000. Even since his death, we have continued the tradition. Last year, a few days after his flu shot, Threepeat had a febrile seizure. Probably coincidence, but, it scared us enough to reconsider the shot for this year...until swine flu reared its ugly head. H1N1 is a scary mofo. So now, I am in a state of do I or don't I? Hubster is adamantly against it. He said tonight that he will absolutely not be getting the shot. He also said that if I wanted to vaccinate the kids, it was OK, but he was out.

Sigh.

Are you getting vaccinated this year? Have you in the past? Why are you/will you not get vaccinated? What about your kids? HELP??!! Pin It

Oh Dawn I have the same dilemma as you. Last year was the first year Tony and I got the flu shots. Since we were going to China our doctors talked us into it. Well, I had the worst winter. I was sick 11 times...all of which I needed Antibiotics for. Tony wasn't as bad but he was sick at least 6 times and he's usually never sick. The doctor claims we got an ugly strain of something in China and never got rid of it. I personally think the flu shot had something to do with it. Right now I am battling a horrible Chest cold, I just sat over a pot of steaming hot water with a towel over my head to try and break it up. And my head is wandering...what if this goes into the flu? I am so torn and am especially torn with Halainah. I know when I go in for her 2 year checkup in 2 short months her pediatrician is going to try and talk me into it. Ughhhh!

Oh ladies.....I know how you feel, I think we all have the same dilemma. Well, our family never got the flu shot (I did not believe in it), however, in saying that, 4/5 years ago my daughter Katrina suffered from the flu for 10 days and was brought to Sick Kids, the doctors stripped me like no tomorrow. They explained the consequences and what could have happened to her, oh my, I was so scared. But I still sit on the fence every year with this decision, so needless to say, we take the flu shot!! it gets the better of me.............

We get the flu shot here. First, my son has very mild asthma but a cold almost always turns into bronchitis or pneumonia. The full blown flu would put him in the hospital. Also, I took my last chemo treatment in February. Chemo killed my immune system and I have been sick pretty much non-stop. The doctors say good, that my immune system is learning again. But, I say you try keeping up with a 3 year old when you're running a fever and coughing up a lung!
