A whole lotta nuthin' goin' on

and I kinda like it!

Soccer is over, 4-on-4 hockey is over, preschool is done and winter hockey hasn't started yet...the evenings are FREE!!!

It makes for bad blogging, but it is so nice to be able to just veg a little. We've been hanging with the neighbs and just enjoying the last few nights of the summer that wasn't.

Twitter...

So apparently, my account with Twitter has been suspended due to "suspicious activity".

Funny, I haven't been on Twitter since the end of July. Funnier still, I sent a request to them to find out exactly what I did that was suspicious and I get automated messages telling me that it was either because I spammed, I broke their terms of service or I was abusive. Pffft...I haven't done any of those things...well, unless a countdown to my birthday was illegal...that's pretty much all I really twittered anyway.

I never really got Twitter anyway. Lame.

I really WOULD like to know what caused my account to be suspended though.

Still cutting and pasting...

I have taken a bit of a break on the C&Ping of my old Whine Cellar blog posts to this one.

I did a few more tonight and am up to March, 2007. Great....only 19 months to go.

Summer is winding down...

Well, to be honest, summer never really began this year. The weather has been dreadful. But, it's August 27th and that means that the summer season is almost over. School starts in less than two weeks and the weather that has been shitty to begin with is getting cooler. There is a crispness in the air that is unmistakably fall-like.

Wah.

I love summer. I love chilling outside with the neighbs. I love not having to dress the kids up like eskimos, I love the breeze through the car with open windows...I.love.summer.

Crap.

But, I SO love fall too. If winter wasn't right behind it, I could live with fall weather year round. I love that apple picking is right around the corner and soon, the snack of choice for the boys will be Macoun apples instead of chips or cookies.

Sigh.

Bye-bye summer. Pin It

While MIL is away...

the parents will SUFFER!

Oh.my.goodness! MIL is off with SIL and fam on a Caribbean cruise this week. Hubster is on vacation, taking care of the boys while I work.

Can I tell you that this 100% on our own parenting thing SUCKS? I mean seriously...I have no time for tending my farm on Facebook, I have to fill AND empty the dishwasher, clean up after I cook and take care of the kids the whole time!!! I hadn't realized how much MIL does until now.

I can officially say now that my MIL is a Saint. Yes, I said it...she is a SAINT.

Crap...gotta go...Threepeat just smeared cookie all over the floor. UGH. Pin It

Home from Vegas...sigh

What a trip. Hubster and I just completed our first three nights alone, sans kids, since 2001. What a three nights it was!!!

As you all are fully aware, my wonderful Mummy sent Hubster and I on a vacation to Las Vegas, accomodations and airfare paid for. We left on Thursday the 20th and came home last night...well, this morning.

We stayed at Bellagio, which is spectacular. There is no other word for it. We felt like royalty. The room was huge, beautiful and had a breathtaking view of the pools and the mountains.

But, let me start from the beginning...

We left our house at 4:30 am on Thursday morning...OUCH. Our Sunwing flight left at 7:00 am Toronto time, and arrived in Las Vegas at 11:00 Las Vegas time. It wasa great flight, with not much turbulence...thank God.

When we arrived at Bellagio, we checked in, but our room was not available until 3:00, so we wandered a little and ended up at Monte Carlo's GREAT buffet for brunch. We walked the strip for a bit and headed over to Luxor to book our tickets for my boyfriend, Criss Angel's show on Saturday night. $230 later, we had great seats.

We wandered some more, checked back in with Bellagio at about 2:00 and went up to our gorgeous room. After a quick shower, we headed down to the casino and lost our first lot of money.

We were so excited about having the AMAZING prime rib and crab legs that wehad in 2001 at the Bally's Steakhouse that we just HAD to do it the first night. $195 US later, we were disappointed and shocked at both the price and the food quality. We played a few slot machines and by midnight, we were both counting sheep.

Friday was pool day. We got up at about 9:00 and headed down to the pool to reserve our loungers. I had my Ipod and my Sookie book, so all was good in my world. We stayed there all day, except for our quick trip to the Bellagio buffet for lunch, which was deeeeelish. At about 4:00, we headed up to our room to get ready for my boyfriend's show. Although the show didn't start until 9:30, we wanted to hit the "Bodies" exhibition at the Luxor first. This exhibit was amazing. Truly...you MUST see this. After the exhibit, we had a quick bite at the cafe in the casino and hen headed off to see Criss.

TO say that Criss' show was a disappointment would be the understatement of the year. Please my friends, DO NOT SEE THIS SHOW. My ten year old could do more fascinating magic than this show offered. Hubster and I were SO disappointed. Criss Angel is SO amazingon TV, but this show was embarrassing. The "magic" was predictible and amateur. I literally felt embarrassedfor Criss when he tried to act and dance. UGH.$230 I may as well have burned. Honestly and truly, it was a complete joke. DO NOT WASTE A PENNY ON THIS SHOW!!!

We spent some time at the Lexus casino, where I was majorly hit on by two twentyish, not bad looking dudes...oh yeah, I still have it baby...and then hit the hay at about 2:00.

We headed out early on Saturday morning to pick up our rented Mustang Convertible. Slver in colour, it was absolutely gorgeous. We headed to Los Angeles (a 4 hour drive) and let the wind blow through our hair for the whole ride. Hubster was in HEAVEN.

We parked on Hollywood Blvd. and found a great tour bus that took us all around LA and showed us lots of celebrity homes....man, they were big. Pics to follow. We absolutely loved the entire tour and would highly recommend it if you head over to L.A.

After a nice dinner at Chili's, we made the long trek back to Las Vegas and headed over to Caesar's and then the Flamingo for some slot action.$200 in the hole later, it was 3:30 am and we headed back home.

We awoke at 10:00 and went to Bellagio's amazing buffet for breakfast. DEEEEELISH.We then walked to Caesar's so that I could add to the gorgeous Pandora bracelet that the neighbs gave to me formy birthday. $250 later, we were headed back to Bellagio to pack.

At 2:30, our shuttle picked us up to take us to the airport. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 5:40 pm and we were excited to be completely seated and doors closed at 5:20. Unforch, there was a HUGE thunderstorm in our way, so we sat on the tarmack for close to 90 minutes.

The flight was, thank God, uneventful and smooth once we were out of Nevada. We landed at 1:58...one hour later than scheduled. By the time we got through customs and baggage claim, picked up the van from Park and Fly and drove home, it was 3:15am...6:15 am for us. Needless to say, we were exhausted.

We hit our pillows at 3:45.

Believe me when I say that 8:00 am came EARLY this morning. BUT, I was logged on to my PC and working at 8:15 am. GO ME!

It's now 11:00 pm. I am wiped. I will post photos soon...hopefully tomorrow.

Love and BROKE hugs (we left ALL our money in Vegas),

The waiting is the hardest part

Hubster and I are sitting in the lounge waiting to board the plane. My stomach, in true Dawn style, is in knots and I feel sick. I truly hate flying...especially to Vegas. Our last flight to Vegas was very turbulent and we just happened to land at 2:00 am on the morning of September 11th...yep, in 2001.

I know I'll be fine, but if I didn't go into panic mode before flying, then I just wouldn't be me now would I?

Sigh...

I'll update when we settle at Bellagio.

P.S. I miss the boys already...kinda. ;o) Pin It

Viva LasVegas!!

I should be so excited about Vegas at this point...and I am, kinda. I can't wait to be there. As with every trip, I wish I could skip the airplane ride and just be there already. UGH. I hate flying.

Hubster and I are trying to figure out which shows (of many) we want to see while we are there. Chris Angel is a given (swooooooon!!), but then there is Cirque de Soleil (6 different themes to choose from), Don Rickles (we saw him in 2001 when we last went to Vegas), David Copperfield, Cher, Depeche Mode, Wayne Brady (we saw him at Casinorama with Kath and Bru), Blue Man Group, Penn and Teller....ugh....sooooo many choices and only three nights!

I plan to spend one FULL day at the Bellagio pool, reading my Sookie Stackhouse books, drinking and smoking and soaking up the sun.

I plan to spend one day shopping and gambling.

I plan to spend one day renewing my wedding vows at the cheesiest, tackiest chapel in Las Vegas and then going to the Bellagio Spa.

Sigh...

That leaves one day...whatever will I do with myself? HA! I know EXACTLY what I amgoing to do, but you will have to wait until I get home to know!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHA! Pin It

Viva Las Vegas!

So it turns out that the theme for my party was "Las Vegas". Mum had cards and dice on each table, lots of Vegas decor, a Magician, a singer, bling for me to wear and a Blackjack table.

We had a blast. All of my close friends and family were there, save for a few who for various reasons , couldn't be there. It was fun, fun fun.

I got some amazing gifts and the best of all was a trip to Vegas for Hubster and I, courtesy of Mummy!!! We are staying at Bellagio and we leave THIS THURSDAY!!!!! Mum paid for the airfare and the accomodations for just the two of us...can you say, "AMAZING?!" I SO can't wait!!!

I have lots of pics, but they are mostly NOT on my camera, so I will post them later, but for now, suffice it to say that it was all I ever wanted in a party.

I got a GORGEOUS Pandora bracelet with some very meaningful charms from the neighbs, I got Winners gift cards from my "cousin and aunt and uncle" (not really blood family, but family all the same), a gorgeous necklace with the boys' initials on the pendant from Anna and Mike, a Royal Doulton figurine from SIL and BIL, a beautiful necklace from MIL, a few bottles of wine from my Mum's friends, US cash from another friend, a gift card to Vaughan Mills Mall from Donna and Diego, LCBO gift cards from my manager and her husband and my BFF Joanne and her husband, Ben, a beautiful wine decanter and a bottle of white wine from my dear friend Karen and my makeover and sunglasses from my hairdresser extraordinaire, Mary and her husband, Peter. How blessed am I?

ETA: OMG Kathy!!! I SO thought I typed that you gave me a BEAUTIFUL purse, which I have already moved allmy stuff into and used today! I LOVE IT!!!!! So sorry for the oversight!!!! (blush)

Truly, truly blessed.

Thank you all for coming and sharing my birthday with me.

I gotta feelin'....

That's right friends, it's PARTAY night!

37 of my closest friends and family will be at my 40th birthday bash tonight!!! I can't WAIT!

I got my toenails did, I'm leaving shortly to get my hair did and the party starts at 7:30!

Did I mention I am excited?

This morning, I woke up to 40 skunks on my lawn with a big sign that says, "Happy Stinkin'40th Birthday to Dawn!" courtesy of my rockin' hubby. You allknowhow much I crave attention and this just did it for me today!!! Now everyone who drives down my street knows it's my birthday...the way it should ALWAYS be! He he he!!

It's the final countdown!

I have 3 days left of being in my thirties. Wow.

Tomorrow night is my big birthday bash, thrown by my Mummy. There will be 30ish people there and I am so excited! I have no idea what she has planned, but she has been stressing about it, so I am sure it will be great!!!

I don't know how I feel about actually turning 40 though. 40 seems so much older than 39 somehow. UGH. I think I am now in a new age bracket for surveys too (35-39 is now a thing of the past and 40-44 is my new range). UGH.

Well, they do say that 40 is the new 30...I like that saying!

There will be pics-a-plenty on Sunday friends! Pin It

Still sick.

Threepeat missed school yesterday due to his fever and today, he STILL has it.

He is so clingy and sad...he's not eating and just wants to cuddle. As much as I love the cuddles, I like my healthy Threepeat better.

Poor baby. Pin It

Poor, sweet angel of mine

My littlest angel is sick. He has a fairly high fever (102.9 at its high point) and he's not eating. Drinking is not his favourite pastime right now either. :o(

He seems OK in himself, but seeing him all glazed over with fever breaks my heart. Bless him. He is on alternating Motrin and Tylenol, so hopefully, that will keep him comfortable until whatever is ailing him goes away. Poor baby has to miss "school" tomorrow and he is heartbroken...he DOES love school.
Speaking of school, here is a photo of him on his first day:

Since I am in the mood for photos, lookie here:

Cruisin' and Bruisin'...kinda

We all love Penelope. She is brilliant. The only thing it seems she CAN'T do is cook dinner!

We took her for a ride up to Barrie yesterday. The kids played PS2 and watched DVDs all the way there and back...HA! LOVE IT!

I haven't taken photos yet...they will come this week, I promise.

In other news, Threepeat is sick. He has a 102.4 fever. He isn't acting sick, other than not eating like he usually does, but my experienced opinion is that tonight will be a rough one. Sigh.

Anyhoo...I am 100% addicted to "Farm Town" on Facebook, so I must go and tend my farm...night all! Pin It

Monday...

That's the new ETA for my van.

That is all. Pin It

This is getting old...

The latest in the continuing saaaaaaaaaaaga of my new minivan...

I got a call at about 4:00 yesterday afternoon from the salesguy who is covering for my vacationing salesguy.

They have now involved Chrysler Corporation in an effort to find my van. The last information they have is that it was dropped off in Concord at 9:00 am on Friday. They have the name of the driver and proof that the car was dropped off. How in God's name they can't find it is ridiculous to me. You have the driver's name...here is a novel concept...ASK HIM WHERE HE PUT IT!!!!!

My gut feeling is that they have sold it to someone else and are desperately trying to cover their tracks. My salesguy's colleague tells me that if the car doesn't arrive at the dealership by today, they will order me a new vehicle...and get this...it will only take 3-4 months to arrive! That is NOT gonna happen. I will be taking my business elsewhere if that's the case.

Chrysler's new slogan coming out of the recession is "We are Building a New Car Company" PFFFFFFFT! Not the kind of car company *I* want to deal with. They are in such dire straits, building SO few cars right now, you would think they could keep track of the few they DO sell!!

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Still no new wheels.

I ordered my van on June 10th. I knew at the time that the minivan plant in Windsor was on shut down due to the economy and after discussing it with my salesman, we figured it would be about 4-6 weeks before I got the van.

We have been keeping track of its progress on the internal program that the dealer has...we saw that the order had been accepted, we saw that it was being painted, and then we saw that it had a shipping date of July 28th with an estimated delivery date of July 31st...the key word in that last part being ESTIMATED. UGH.

So, last week, my salesman calls to say that it is due to arrive at the dealership on Friday (the 31st)....cool beans! I arranged insurance, got all the financial stuff in order on Thursday. My salesman told me he was going on vacation, but that his colleague would be more than happy to assist me with the PDI. Great!

Friday, at around noon, I hadn't heard from the dealership, so I called. The van would be there by 4:00. It was in Concord at the moment, which is about half an hour from the dealership. Fantastic. At 5:00, the dealership still hadn't called. I called back and was told that it didn't look like the van was coming in today. He also said that even if it were to be delivered tomorrow (Saturday) that there would be no one in the shop to prepare it. Tuesday would be delivery day. UGH.

Fast forward to yesterday (Tuesday). I called at 9:00 am and spoke with my salesman's colleague. He advised that it was scheduled for delivery at 2:00 and that he would call me as soon as it arrived.

3:00...no call. I called him. The receptionist told me he was with a client, so I asked her to please check to see if my van had arrived. She advised that the van was in Windsor (WTF??!!) and that it was scheduled for delivery on July 31st, but it wasn't here yet. No shit sherlock. I asked to speak to the Sales Manager and was transferred to this little shit of a boy who talked to me like a high school chum. I could tell he was young just by the way he spoke to me. He was very condascending and advised that the delivery date is an "ETA" and that it could go 3-4 days either side of that date. I pointed out that we were on day 4 on this side of the ETA and he cut me off and said, "BUSINESS days." He also advised that there was no way to track the vehicle. (WTF??) How the heck can you not track a 1,000 lb vehicle???? I can track a piece of paper that I send somewhere by Purolator...how the heck can this be??

I hung up the phone spitting nails. He was just so arrogant. It pisses me off that I have been waiting a long time for this van and we are paying a HELL of a lot of money for it. The least I should be able to expect is courtesy and honesty.

And to be completely honest, I just want my new car. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a NOW CHILD. I can't wait for ANYTHING.

Hmph. Pin It

McLinky Blog Hop - Encouragement

This week's Blog Hop is your favorite quote, spiritual passage , life lesson, saying, PHOTO or encouraging thought. Post your favorite or most meaningful, and then include a sentence or two about what it means to you personally, and how it can encourage other people in their lives.

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

So many times in my life, I have been surrounded by many caring, loving, compassionate people, but felt completely alone. All of their love and kindness could not fill the void left by the people I have lost, especially my sister, Joanne and my Dad, Bob. Their loss continues to leave a gaping hole in my heart and my soul. This Bible passage gives me such comfort. On the days when I feel it can't get any worse, this passage lifts me up.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you."
Mary Stevenson
I HAD to list two today. This poem is such an amazing source of comfort for so many people. What a wonderful thought that Jesus does not abandon us, but comforts and carries us through hard times. Wow...awesome.

Kids these days...

This afternoon, we went to our good friends, Kathy and Bruno's house for a barbecue. Katrina, their eldest, is 13...turned 13 in March. Alysha, their youngest, is 11...turns 12 in September. Boy Oneder is 13.

I was amazed at the difference in maturity, both physical and emotional, between Boy Oneder and the girls. The girls look like young women, slowly developing lovely ladies' figures. Boy Oneder is still a boy...in every sense. He hasn't had his growth spurt yet and it really shows. He's not "into" girls yet. He still has a fairly high pitched voice and he is lanky and skinny. That's just the PHYSICAL comparison! The girls are so much more mature. They speak and act so differently. I can't really describe that part, but I guess Boy Oneder seems more hyper...more silly than the girls. Don't get me wrong, the girls had their silly moments, but they were fleeting...Boy Oneder's were not.

Another funny observation I made was the "uncomfortableness" (is that a word?) between them. These kids have known each other since Katrina was 9 months old and Boy Oneder was 6 months old. The girls call us Zio and Zia (uncle in Italian) and the kids are all truly like cousins. We haven't seen them in a while (a couple of months) and I could almost FEEL the embarrassment and tension between them when we first arrived. It's so funny. They are obviously looking at each other differently now. I'm not saying it's a sexual thing, per se, but it's a gender thing for sure. I could see them trying to look cool in front of one another and none of them wanted to speak first. SO weird.

Anyway, we had a FAB time, like we always do with them. Threepeat was a little ham and the girls loved on him, like they always do. Bru made us laugh and Kathy fed us WAY too much food, like they always do.

I love being with good friends...makes my heart all warm and fuzzy.

Thanks for a great afternoon guys! Pin It

Countdown...

13 days till my birthday party

14 days till I turn 40

12 days till Carla's birthday party Pin It

At least I didn't gain...

Yesterday's JC weigh in resulted ina 6 ozs loss for this week, bringing my grand total, according to THEIR scale,to 6.6 lbs lost. I'll take it. Better than gaining. For me, it's no longer about the scale. It's about fitting into clothes that used to be too tight, it's about energy I haven't had in years and it's about health. I am not putting CRAP into my body anymore...except my precious wine...which I will NOT give up thank you very much.

Celexa withdrawal is gone...woot! I feel wonderful. I feel good about myself and I actually got a wolf whistle from someone at the local plaza yesterday. GO ME! Nearly 40 years old and I've STILL got it.

Today was a rough one. Hubster painted MIL's bedroom with Boy Oneder's help, so I was alone with Threepeat and Middleman...devilboy and nightmare child all.day. I am tired. But, thereis a hot tub that we have had for a few months that Hubster and I have yetto christen, and accorrding to my libido, tonight may be the night. Yeah, whatever, TMI, but this is my blog and I can divulge whatever I want, remember? Pin It
